A Levittown woman was arrested Sunday night on assault and obstruction charges after she allegedly shoved a Nassau County police officer down a flight of stairs during a domestic disturbance at an East Rockaway home, authorities said.
Veronica Berk, 31, 17 Grace Lane, is awaiting arraignment Dec. 30 on charges of second-degree assault and second-degree obstructing government administration.
Police were called to a home on Third Avenue in East Rockaway around 11 p.m. on Sunday after receiving a call reporting a domestic disturbance.
A Fourth Precinct police officer was at the top of a staircase in the home and attempting to escort Berk from the house when she allegedly pushed him down the stairs, detectives said. The unidentified officer suffered injuries to his left leg and abdomen, according to a news release. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
Berk was arrested at the scene and held in police custody overnight. She was due to face a judge Monday morning at First District Court in Hempstead.
