Joseph Rivera, 26, of 1 Short Lane, was arraigned Dec. 28 on a misdemeanor prostitution charge at First District Court in Hempstead. He was released without bail Saturday after facing a judge for arraignment on the charge.
Police said they began an investigation after receiving numerous complaints regarding “possible illicit sexual activity” at Rivera’s home.
Nassau County Vice Squad detectives used online sites, including Backpage and Craigslist, to set up a meeting with him. Once an undercover detective was inside his house, Rivera “agreed to perform a sexual act…for an agreed upon amount of money,” police said in a news release.
He was arrested without incident and held overnight in police custody. If convicted of the charge, Rivera faces up to 15 days in jail.
He is due back in court on Jan. 8.
