Daytona Beach Police investigated an apparent murder-suicide Sunday. Daytona Police spokesperson Jimmie Flynt says a man who might have been a veteran of the Iraq war, evidently shot his wife with a rifle Saturday, and then shot himself. A neighbor at the apartment complex at 778 Jimmy Ann Drive called police Sunday after noticing the couple’s dog on the balcony, which he said was unusual. Neighbors also told police they heard gunshots Saturday night, some said at around 6:30 p.m., and some said at around 9:30 p.m., but police were not called.
Officer Flynt says the preliminary investigation identified the man as 28-year old Jason Pemberton, and the woman as his wife, 25-year old Tiffany Pemberton. Police say Pemberton “…appears to be an Iraqi war veteran…”, but had no other details about his military service. The couple had been living at the apartment for about a year. Police say Jason Pemberton was from North Carolina and Tiffany Pemberton was from Alabama.
