Officers responded to a 911 call at 10:25 a.m. on Oct. 9 from a resident of a home at 9 Parkcenter Drive in Deer Park. The man, Edward Bohlsen, 79, said his 40-year-old son, Eric, was threatening to cut off the father’s head. The elder Bohlsen told responding officers that his son had psychological issues and was not taking his medication, the spokeswoman said.
When officers from the First Precinct arrived to the home, Eric Bholson allegedly ran from them and then produced a knife in a threatening manner during a brief foot pursuit. After the 40-year-old returned to his apartment, he was shocked with a stun gun, but lunged at the officers.
The son was then shot once by a responding police officer just before 11 a.m., according to police radio reports. He was shot in the chest and then transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. He underwent surgery Wednesday and was listed in stable condition.
Police said Eric was arrested after officers learned of two outstanding warrants. Additional charges were pending, as of Thursday morning.
