The Nov. 2 shooting occurred at 11:55 p.m. in front of 1 Sycamore Court, police said. When officers arrived to the scene, they found a man lying in the roadway and suffering from a gunshot wound.
Investigators said a large crowd had formed around the victim, but all the people there claimed to have “seen noting,” the news release said.
When emergency workers responded, they took the unidentified victim to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said a crime scene was established and investigators discovered multiple shell casings nearby. The casings reportedly came from varying caliber weapons. Two rifles, which cops said were used in the shooting, were also found on nearby Fulton Street.
Detectives said they have identified a person of interest in the shooting. The alleged suspect’s identity was not released. Police said the investigation is continuing.
Long Beach Police Commissioner Michael Tangney said shootings are “dramatically down” in the area and noted that crime has reduced by 12 percent overall. Despite that, police are asking residents to remain vigilant and report all suspicious acidity to 911.
