Nassau County police said Tuesday they have identified a suspect – who is now being sought for questioning – in connection with a bank robbery that occurred in Rockville Centre.

In a Jan. 21 alert, Nassau County police said they are actively searching for 56-year-old Robert Davidson who is now being considered wanted in connection with the robbery.

Investigators allege he entered a TD Bank branch on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre on Jan. 10, took a slip from the counter and wrote a threatening note demanding money. In the note, he allegedly told the teller he had a gun and wanted cash.

At the time, there were seven employees and a customer in the branch. No one was hurt. Police said Davidson fled the scene on foot after the teller passed him and undetermined amount of currency.

In a description of the suspect, police said Davidson was wearing a Toronto Blue Jays baseball cap during the robbery.

Several recent police reports have said a suspect wearing a similar hat was responsible for robberies at a Capital One branch in Merrick and a TD Bank branch in Garden City. It was unclear if investigators suspect Davidson to be involved in those robberies, or if they are seeking another suspect.

A police department spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for additional information.
