On Monday, police identified the suspect wanted for allegedly snatching a $1,800 Maltese puppy from a pet store in Dunwoody.
The puppy has since been returned, but police are stilling searching for the accused dog snatcher, Dunwoody police Sgt. Michael Carlson said.
Investigators said Mr. Romyo Mays Cassadine, 25, stole the white 2-pound puppy from Petland on Ashford-Dunwoody Road on Jan. 22.
The man told employees he planned to buy the puppy as a gift, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"He asked the associate if he could hold the puppy while he waited for his boyfriend to come into the store," Sgt. Carlson said. "When the associate was distracted, the suspect ran from the store with the puppy."
He left the area in a black compact car with someone else driving, Sgt. Carlson said.
But the store employees said the puppy was returned over the weekend.
"We got her back on Saturday," Petland store manager Ms. Kimberly Collins told the AJC. "She was fine. We're very happy."
Ms. Collins told the paper a man came into the store with the dog in a backpack and claimed someone else had dropped it off at his house. It was not the same man who took the dog, Ms. Collins said.
The dog snatcher left in such a hurry that he dropped his cell phone, Ms. Collins said.
Sgt. Carlson said the suspect has several tattoos on his body including: “Romyo” on his abdomen, a cross on his upper right shoulder, "Chris" on his upper chest and theater masks on his left shoulder.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect or the incident is asked to contact Dunwoody Police Department's Det. Andrew Thompson at (678) 382-6921 or andrew.thompson@dunwoodyga.gov.
