Police I.D. man murdered in Barry Farms Neighborhood

Washington, D.C. --- Police have released the name of the man who was shot and killed in the Barry Farms Neighborhood just before midnight Thursday.

Police say 23-year-old Demencio Lewis of Southeast was shot multiple times in the head and chest in the 2500 block of Sayles Place SE around 11:57 p.m.

An off-duty officer reportedly heard the gunshots while in the 2600 block of Bowen Road SE. Police say that officer found Lewis on Sayles Place unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

After EMS personnel determined that there were no signs consistent with life, Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene and later taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia, pending an autopsy.

Police have not speculated on suspects or a motive for the killing.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
