Roger Owens is facing a charge of animal cruelty for the incident which took place last Friday.
The young dog, estimated at just twelve months of age, survived because the rope which tethered her to the truck, broke.
News of a possible break in the case was announced on the Justice for Andra Grace Facebook page on Wednesday; the following information was shared:
Two wonderful volunteers, Michael and Kendra, went out yesterday on foot in the Marietta area and handed out flyers, spoke to local businesses and residents etc.
Within 15 minutes, we had two positive eyewitness accounts, identifying the person who is responsible for dragging Andra Grace. We passed along all the details including his name, where he lives etc to Animal Control and they are actively seeking an arrest.
The same Facebook page posted a comment indicating disappointment and dismay over the accused abuser's potential punishment for the near fatal event.
We are absolutely beside ourselves and sick with anger and disgust. A man was charged for dragging Andra Grace. His "summons" ( in other words a simple ticket!!!) is for a fine of $1100 and/or UP to 30 days in jail!
The dog was left with horrific injuries following the dragging; her toenails were ripped out, her knees were skinned and mangled and her back paws were de-gloved.
Owens is due in court on Dec. 20.
A petition calling for stronger animal abuse laws has been created in Andra Grace's name. Please click here to read more.
