Keith Shippey, 24, of 131 Branch Ave., was arraigned Aug. 28 at First District Court in Hempstead and ordered held in lieu of $80,000 bail or $155,000 bond.
He was arrested Wednesday after First Precinct patrol officers spotted him on S. Bayview Avenue near Atlantic Avenue in Freeport. Shippey has been wanted by police in connection with an April 29 burglary at a home on Davison Avenue in Freeport.
Police allege Shippey broke into the home and left DNA evidence at the crime scene. According to detectives, police matched the DNA evidence left at the scene to Shippey’s DNA. It was unclear how police were able to obtain his DNA or if the sample was already on file with authorities.
Cops charged Shippey for two additional burglaries – an April 19 incident on Noon Place and an Aug 27 incident on Westend Avenue – both of which occurred in Freeport. During his arrest, officers allegedly found a stolen Coach pocketbook and wallet in his car.
Shippey was charged with three counts of second-degree burglary and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He is due back in court on Friday.
