Kenneth Jones, Jr., 19, of Washington Avenue, is awaiting arraignment Sept. 21 at First District Court in Central Islip on charges of leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
Jones was charged in connection with a four car crash that occurred at 12:40 p.m. on Sept. 19 along Deer Park Avenue near Parkdale Drive in North Babylon. Jones, who was riding a motorcycle, was allegedly involved in a secondary crash after not being able to stop while traveling behind two vehicles that were involved in a collision.
Police said Travis Lovett, 20, of Brentwood, was a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle northbound on Deer Park Avenue, when he was involved in a rear end collision with a 2011 Ford Escape. The SUV driver, Jacqueline Morrison, 54, of Babylon, reportedly lost control of her car and the vehicle overturned.
Investigators believe Jones was driving a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle and also traveling north on Deer Park Avenue at the time of the first crash. He and Stanley Severe, 22, of Deer Park – who was operating a 2007 Honda motorcycle – both could not stop in time and collided, said police.
According to police, Jones fled from the scene on foot and left his motorcycle in the roadway.
The collision left Lovett critically injured. He remains hospitalized at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip with a head injury, said police. The SUV driver and her 3-year-old granddaughter were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda motorcycle was not injured and did not receive medical treatment.
