'[R]esidents have been ordered to present their firearms and licences to their nearest police stations in a bid by law enforcers to account for the number of guns in the city," The Herald informs us.
"Those with malfunctioning firearms have also been called upon to surrender the weapons," the report adds.
Why?
There has been "a spate of armed robberies." And as an additional crime-fighting measure, "the call was also extended to those who acquired firearms while living in other areas but were now resident in the city."
"We also expect those who changed residential addresses to furnish us with new ones," a police spokesman said.
What do the police hope to accomplish?
[T]he move was aimed at updating their firearm holders' database and at the same time ensuring that all guns...are accounted for.
It seems two of their ranks have been shot in recent robbery incidents, one killed, the other wounded. They're serious about this:
"We expect maximum co-operation from all firearm holders as we seek to eliminate unlicensed firearms that are usually used to commit crimes like armed robberies and murder."
What responsible citizen could be against these law and order and safety measures?
What good reason could there be to not demand licensing and accounting of guns? Who but those with criminal intent could object to cooperating with police in this important matter?
And how can anyone justify keeping unsafe weapons that may injure or kill themselves or someone else--possibly a loved one or a child?
How many more police officers and innocents must be sacrificed before we finally demand strict enforcement of common sense gun laws?
Oh...did I mention this story is from Zimbabwe?

You are simply not a responsible citizen if you do not comply with such common sense requests.
In fact, I am going to start requesting that Levi's start making transparent pockets for their jeans so that pesky 4th Amendment doesn't get in the way of my duty to my fellow citizens who may worry what I carry in my pockets, and so the bad guys can see that I really don't carry much cash, so I shouldn't be the first choice for a mugging. Afterall, I don't carry anything objectionable, and I'm not doing anything criminal, why should I worry?
In my duty to my fellow citizens, I think it is also important that we not use words that some may find offensive or divisive, so I am going to not use certain words: Liberal, Socialist, Tyrant...that's my starter list. No more use of such horrible words.
Heck, I may even host a few LEO in my spare bedroom...afterall, I have nothing to hide. Those pesky Amendments simply get in the way of Utopia.

We in America owe Zimbabwe our gratitude for having the courage to take point on this humanitarian example of how the people of the world should live with one another.
On the bright side, the male residents can be glad the problem is not a spate of rape.
How in the hell is it legal to tax a constitutional right? FOID cards, concealed carry licenses, etc, are a tax on gun ownership. Any time you have to pay the government money, its a tax. And a license fee is exactly that. How long before they start charging a Church tax if you want to participate in religion? What about a free speech license?
They are going to confiscate malfunctioning guns? Without due process? Do we even have a constitution any more? Or did they confiscate that too?
I sense strains of pre-nazi Germany... WTF do these bureaucrats think they're doing?
I'm sure the robbers are going to turn in their guns. How ignorant this is! When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.
That settles it...I'm moving to Zimbabwe.
Didn't the Nazi's ask the Jews to turn themselves in several decades ago?
They have no need to know, They will ### around until we do something to GET RID OF stupid people in government
Heck, if I were Robert Mugabe, I'd want all the guns accounted for too! After all, he probably remembers how he got to be President For Life and wants to be sure that "for life" is a very long time.
If you don't think we have wannabe "Presidents For Life" here in the good ol' US of A, you aren't paying enough attention. It's our job, and the prime reason for the Second Amendment, to ensure they don't get promoted from wannabe to actual.

Interesting how Zimbabwe has their own version of a FOID card.
I wonder if they have their own version of Mayor Daley as well?
Dave Codrea, in Zimbabwe, the criminals are in power, don't forget.
To DDS: Bloomberg of New York wants to be "mayor for life" - that's why he got the gedrules in NYC to approve amending the charter to allow him to run for a 3rd term. If that isn't blatant, naked demogoguery...
