The Corvette ZR-1 is a fast vehicle, but can it evade police? Not this one, because the driver is a fool and doesn't understand how to properly maneuver a rear wheel drive vehicle. Traveling at speeds around 160 mph, the Corvette tries to negotiate around some semi-tractor trailer traffic and fails miserably. Taking the right shoulder, and then cutting left it shifted the weight of the vehicle to violently causing the Corvette to spin out of control. Sliding sideways into the rear of another trailer, the Corvette explodes into thousands of pieces catapulting the driver out of the vehicle to lay in the ditch.
1990-1995 Corvette ZR-1 specifications:
- Valve management by Lotus
- LT5 aluminum block
- 5.7 liter v8
- 405 hp @ 5500 RPM
- 385 tq @ 4800 RPM
- 32 valves
- Top speed: 175 mph
- 3288 lb. curb weight
- Four over head camshafts
Upon closer examination, the mistake of the driver was that he was just going to fast and wasn't prepared for the car to slide out a little bit. Over correction and incorrect throttle / brake management is technically what caused the wreck. Had he understood the physics behind what was going on, he might have actually made it. The rear wheel drive, weight balance, and torque capabilities of the Corvette should have been enough to properly counter act any lateral forces propelling the vehicle into the ditch. In this driving scenario the operator must be perfect, or else.
