Nassau Police arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly became involved in a verbal dispute with a woman before choking and robbing her at gunpoint, a police news release said.
Tyleek Bussie, 20, will be arraigned Sept. 16 at First District Court in Hempstead after being charged with first-degree robbery, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal obstruction of breathing.
Police were called to the Budget Inn at 400 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa at 9:25 a.m. on Sunday. According to detectives, a 24-year-old victim had been arguing with Bussie when he allegedly took her phone and refused to return it.
As the situation escalated, Bussie allegedly “grabbed the victim around the neck” and began to choke her, cops said. Investigators believe that Bussie also displayed a handgun during the altercation, before he allegedly stole the victim’s money and another cell phone. The victim suffered a minor injury and did not require medical attention.
Police said Bussie initially fled the scene, but eventually returned and was arrested by officers from the Bureau of Special Operations.
Police said he was found in possession of a loaded .22 caliber handgun. The victim’s money and cell phones were also recovered.
