Police in Palos Hills captured escaped FBI fugitive Kenneth Conley on Friday. Conley, 38, had escaped from federal lock in Chicago on Dec. 18.
Maintenance workers from an apartment building called the police to report a person believed to be camping out in the basement. When police arrived, they stopped a man wearing a beret, sunglasses, an overcoat, and hobbling with a cane and limp for questioning. The man turned out to be Conley in disguise.
Conley provided the officers with a fake name. He was found to be in possession of a BB gun.
Conley attacked a police officer once his cover was blown and fled the scene. He was apprehended a short time later as he attempted to break into another apartment. He was remanded to federal custody during an arraignment hearing on Saturday.
Conley escaped from prison using a rope made from bedsheets. Conley and an accomplice were able to remove a cinder block from their window, allowing them to squeeze through. The climbed 15-stories to the ground from their escape window.
During his arraignment, Conley was in a wheelchair as a result of an injury sustained fleeing from police.
