Police capture car thief after he crashes into an alligator

The Smoking Gun reported a story about a Florida car thief who got snapped up by cops after crashing his getaway car into an alligator. After Calvin Rodriguez, 22, had stolen a Honda Civic on Tuesday, Port St. Lucie cops began tailing him.

A police report stated the car thief had struck an alligator that was crossing a road. After striking the gator, Rodriguez crashed into a median.

The Huffington Post reports the car thief used a set of “shaved keys” and targeted cars in Publix, Sam’s Club, Wal-Mart, and Winn Dixie parking lots. In 2012, reported Honda Civics and Accords were ranked at the top of the list of stolen cars.

He was arrested and confessed to stealing cars. Rodriguez is now facing an array of felonies and is sitting behind bars in the St. Lucie county slammer. His bond is $37,500. Authorities didn’t know if the gator had survived the crash.
