WICHITA – A 32-year-old man’s body was found floating in a large drainage pond belonging to Central Community Church on 6100 W. Maple. Although the young man’s name has not been released yet, police are saying that it does appear to have been a suicide.
On Friday at 7:35 p.m. someone driving past the church saw the body and quickly called 911. According to Sgt. Jim Merrick of the Wichita Police department, the man could have been there “for some time”.
In an update today, Capt. Brent Allred share that “Everything indicated that this is more than likely a suicide,” Allred said. “This individual was having some issues.” It is believed that the man’s body had been in the pond for possibly several days. – Stan Finger/ Wichita Eagle
The young man’s family had last seen him on Wednesday and had filed a missing person’s report. It was reported that he had talked about suicide to a family member, and a police report stated that the young man had left a suicide note before he went missing.
It is still unclear, at this time, if the man was a member of Central Community Church, or way he decided to end his own life.
