A Babylon man was arrested on a misdemeanor larceny charge Sunday after police said he swiped a donation jar from a Lindenhurst store, according to a March 10 Suffolk County police news release.

Authorities allege Thomas Campion, 49, walked into Flag Beverage on West Hoffman Avenue in Lindenhurst on Saturday and walked out with a donation jar that was on the counter. Police said the donation jar contained about $200 in cash that was going to be donated to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital’s heart center.

The store posted surveillance video and images of the suspect on their Facebook page late Saturday.

Cops said officers received a tip the suspect was inside a Panera Bread restaurant on Montauk Highway in West Babylon. An officer “recognized the suspect” and arrested him in the restaurant, a news release said.

Campion was released from custody Sunday on an appearance ticket. He is due to face a judge at Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip on May 2.
