Pedro Merchant, 20, was arraigned Sept. 20 and held without bail after being charged with second-degree murder. He appeared at First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said Merchant is responsible for committing a fatal shooting on Sept. 11 in front of a home at 198 Dartmouth St. The victim, Dante Quinones, 17, was shot numerous times.
Authorities said Quinones had been rushed to Winthrop University Hospital, but was later pronounced dead. His family has since called on police to make an arrest in the case.
Detectives said Merchant was arrested at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, but they did not disclose how they were led to suspect him.
No further information was immediately available. Merchant was being held in police custody pending arraignment and could not be reached for comment.
