According to a Friday afternoon publication of the Asbury Park Press, the "good Samaritan," who claimed to have found a severely neglected dog tied up in a trash bag in Wall Township, N.J. , has been arrested.
The man, Keith Morgan, claimed that he saw a trash bag along the side of Belmar Blvd. on Thursday, and that he stopped to investigate after he noticed that the bag was moving.
Inside of the trash bag was a severely neglected dog, covered in severe mats which were caked with urine and feces.
It now appears that Morgan was not a good Samaritan, but possibly the neglectful owner who allowed the small dog to fall to a severe state of neglect.
According to NBC New York, after interviewing the man, and his wife, Shauna, investigators determined that animal cruelty charges were warranted.
Yesterday, the dog was taken to the Associated Humane Society in Tinton Falls and he is currently under the care of a veterinarian.
According to the shelter, the dog, which was named "Morgan," after he was initially brought to the facility, is recuperating with the assistance of a feeding tube.
After learning that the good Samaritans were likely the dog's abusers, the shelter opted to stop calling the neglected dog, "Morgan."
