Pole kills pedestrian: A falling light pole on a Phoenix street tragically hit and crushed a pedestrian Sunday evening. Greenwich Time reports Sept. 16 that a 25-year-old man was struck by the light pole after it fell from the impact of a car hitting it in a two-vehicle collision.
The report stated that the pedestrian was killed instantly after one of the vehicles collided and sent the pole falling down. The incident happened at a midtown intersection. ABC15.com reports that the exact location of 15th Avenue and McDowell Road around 6 p.m.
Police said the man was walking away from the intersection at the time and probably didn't see the pole coming down on him.
Authorities haven't released the man's identity. Those involved in the collision received non-life threatening injuries.
News of a light pole killing a pedestrian is a freak accident. It's unclear how the light pole suddenly toppled over without the man realizing what was going on. Obviously it was a matter of terrible timing to be in the exact place he shouldn't have been when the pole hit him. It was surely a shocking sight for those who had to witness the aftermath.
