Article from Last Year’s Race
Due to a snow storm last year the run was shortened to three miles. And despite the blizzard conditions a good size field participated.
In last year’s abbreviated course coming in first overall for the men was Joe Rooney of Howell in 18:33. For the women it was Allison Linnell of Colts Neck in 18:54:
The races feature fast, flat courses on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. After the races the participants are treated to Hot Soup. Pre-Registered runners get the famous Polar Bear T-Shirt. A large field of over 500 runners and walkers are expected for the long running event.
The Jersey Shore Running Club band comprised of Dave Demonico on trumpet and “chickie” on the drums is expected to be out on the course again this year.
As a bonus after the race many runners take a real “Polar Bear” plunge into the ocean. But that is strictly optional. Last year even in the blizzard several runners took the plunge.
