Riverfront Times has always been Saint Louis' authority on all things alternative and strange, especially when it comes to local music. So there is no doubt that their upcoming showcase of Saint Louis musical talent will continue that reputation of theirs. With this and Pointfest, this spring already looks like a good one for live music in the STL.
The RFT Music Showcase will be held on June 7th and will be moving to the Grove district of Manchester Avenue. In previous years, it has been held on Washington Avenue, and before that, in the Loop at Delmar. The Grove is home to the Gramophone and Atomic Cowboy, music venues which will most likely host parts of the Showcase this year.
As for the musical talent that will be performing on the Avenue this year, the names have started trickling slowly out from the RFT grapevine. Today, the Riverfront Times' website announced that Pokey LaFarge and So Many Dynamos would be performing at the June event. Their performances will take place at the Ready Room and tickets for their show alone will sell at $15 per person.
Pokey LaFarge is an American roots band who has recently enjoyed great popularity beyond the Saint Louis city limits, having now performed on major late night shows both in the United States and the United Kingdom. They have even been featured on NPR Music's Tiny Desk concert series. To Saint Louis, however, Pokey LaFarge needs no grand introduction, and because of that it's no wonder that RFT asked them to perform at their Showcase this year.
So Many Dynamos is indie rock that regularly combines with electro-pop and dance and punk, all to the delight of their audience. With three full-length albums and several EPs under their belt with a fourth album on the way, this band is no rookie at the music game. So Many Dynamos has already announced spring date tours for this year, including shows in Saint Louis and Chicago as well as across the South.
The full price for seeing all fifty bands that will be at the RFT Music Showcase, including the LaFarge/Dynamos show at the Ready Room, is $20 per person. When tickets will go on sale as well as additional performers will be announced at the RFT Music website.
