When players start up Pokemon X and Y, they are given the option to choose Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle in addition to Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie as originally announced. Additionally, once the classic Red and Blue characters are evolved to Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise and obtained its unique Mega Stone, the Pokémon will be able to Mega Evolve while in battle into Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard, and Mega Blastoise.
Another layer to obtaining Mega Forms was also announced today. On top of needing a Mega Stone, players will also need to obtain a bracelet called the Mega Ring for their Trainer which holds the Key Stone that enables Mega Evolutions to occur.
Pokemon X and Y is set for an Oct. 12 release on the Nintendo 3DS and recently announced Nintendo 2DS.
