Several new details have been revealed regarding the mystery gift feature of the upcoming Nintendo 3DS video games, “Pokemon X” and “Pokemon Y.” According to a report by Serebii on Oct. 5, the event pocket monster acquisition element will be similar to the previous installments of the series.
Players are still able to download mystery gifts using the infrared sensor, local wireless in addition to downloading from the Nintendo Network. In “Pokemon X” and “Pokemon Y,” they can also use serial codes to acquire the event pocket monsters. The new method will work in a similar method as the global link feature in the fifth generation of “Pokemon” mainline video games. Furthermore, players can now store up to 24 wonder cards, which are items that usually accompany mystery gifts, on their inventory.
However, Nintendo also revealed a restriction in regards to feature in “Pokemon X” and “Pokemon Y.” The mystery gifts will be region locked; as a result, a game that was manufactured specifically in North America is not compatible of receiving event pocket monsters made for another region like Japan.
Nintendo has not yet announced any plans on mystery gifts for “Pokemon X” and “Pokemon Y.” The two handheld video games, which were developed by the Game Freak studio, will be formally launching in the North American region on Oct. 12.
