The first trailer for Pokémon Rumble U was released in Japan Thursday and shows off the first set of toy characters and Skylanders-like capabilities for the upcoming Wii U title. We also received the first details on how the game interacts with the store bought figures.
The first set of Pokémon Rumble U figures will feature seven characters that can be purchased at vending machines in Japan's Pokemone Centers for 200 yen ($2). The characters received are random but include Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Torchic, Piplup, Lucario, Victini and a mystery promo character that's more powerful
These figures contain a NFC (Near Field Communication) chip that will transfer the character to the game when placed on the Wii U GamePad's NFC reader located at the bottom left of the controller. These same seven characters can be obtained in Pokémon Rumble U without an extra purchase but the toy figures are more powerful than the stock characters and also customisable. Players will be able to purchase upgrades to the figure-based Pokemon such as strength or additional moves using in-game coins and then save those changes back to the toy.
Pokémon Rumble U is currently set to be released in Japan on April 24 but there is no word on a North America or European release yet. You can check out the Japanese trailer for Pokémon Rumble U in our video gallery.
