“Pokémon Omega Ruby” and “Pokémon Alpha Sapphire” for the Nintendo 3DS introduced a new Pokémon Mega Evolution Wednesday during a Nintendo Kids Conference at E3 2014. Sableye is the latest to gain the benefits of the mechanic introduced in “Pokémon X and Y” and the new gameplay trailer reveals a unique transformation.

Sableye is a Ghost and Dark-type Pokémon that was originally introduced in “Pokémon Ruby” and “Pokémon Sapphire.” It digs up and eats the gems it lives in which resulted in gemstone look for its eyes and the red jewel located in its chest. Prior to “Omega Ruby” and “Alpha Sapphire,” this Pokémon did not evolve but now it is on the list of characters that are able to Mega Evolve.

When the player initiates Mega Evolution, Sableye concentrates all of the energy from the Mega Evolution into the jewel that adorns its chest. Once Mega-Evolved, this jewel will swell and detach from its body.

Mega Sableye uses the hardened and supposedly indestructible jewel as a defensive tool in battle by hiding behind it. From there, it is able to exploit the opponent’s weaknesses and take advantage of any openings.

This follows the reveal of other Mega Evolutions this week including Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon. These evolutions are called Primal Reversion and allow both Pokémon to “reclaim their original power from nature’s energy and obtain even greater power than they already have.”

Primal Kyogre becomes larger than before and adds Fire type move to its existing repertoire of Ground type abilities for a boost in attack power. Meanwhile Primal Kyogre grows to more than twice its original size and its Special Attack and Ability also become more powerful as a result.

The other new Mega Evolutions revealed so far are for the starter Pokémon Treecko and Mudkip. The former will evolve into the Grass / Dragon type Mega Sceptile while the latter evolves into Mega Swampert and stays a Water / Ground type. Both increase their size and strength with Mega Sceptile gaining the Lightning Rod ability and Mega Swampert getting Swift Swim.

Meanwhile, the Mythical Pokémon Diancie may also evolve into Mega Diancie. The new ability that the Rock / Fairy type gains remains unrevealed though.

“Pokémon Omega Ruby” and “Pokémon Alpha Sapphire” are both set for a Nov. 21 launch for the Nintendo 3DS. There’s no word on how many more Mega Evolutions remain but the Hoenn region is reportedly filled with Mega Stones to discover.
