Nintendo and Game Freak announced a Nintendo 3DS companion app Wednesday for Pokemon X and Y called Pokémon Bank that lets owners store and transfer their Pokemon online as well as transfer characters from other games. However, there is an associated annual fee.
The Pokémon Bank app will allow users to store and deposit up to 100 boxes containing up to 3,000 Pokémon when it is released to the Nintendo eShop later this year. Players will also be able to deposit and withdraw Pokémon from multiple copies of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
There is an annual fee associated with the Pokémon Bank app but Nintendo promise a free trial period with more details to be announced soon.
The introduction of the Pokémon Bank app will enable users to easily transfer characters over from older Pokémon titles using the Poké Transporter. Owners will be able to insert Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2, or Pokémon White 2 into their Nintendo 3DS and use Poké Transporter to transfer Pokémon from those games into Pokémon Bank.
Pokemon X and Y will be released on Oct. 12.
