Pokedex 3D Pro vs. iOS Pokedex

Recently, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo have released 3D Pokedexes for the 3DS and for the iOS platform, the first time Nintendo has officially released a product on a third-party device. Here is a comparison of the two apps through price, features, and aesthetics.

Price: The Pokedex 3D pro costs $14.99 on the 3DS eShop. The iOS version costs $1.99 for the current generation of Pokemon. However, to get the whole Pokedex with all 649 Pokemon as well as all of the forms, you would have to pay $5.99 for each additional generation. The total cost for the app would be around $26. A person could get a brand new game on sale for that amount. Winner: 3D Pro

Features: Both apps have full 3D models of all of the Pokemon. As a matter of fact, they are the same models and feature the same animations. Also, both apps display learnable movesets, abilities, evolutions, egg groups, stat comparisons, etc. However, the 3DS version comes with quizzes that you can take to test your Pokemon knowledge. It also has an AR viewer that allows you to take pictures with the 3DS. The iOS version is more comprehensive since you can compare different Pokemon based on stats, moves, abilities, etc. You can also run this app on an iOS device while you play Pokemon on the DS or 3DS. With the 3DS, you would have to completely quit the game and then access the app if you were playing Pokemon Black or White. Winner: Draw

Aesthetics: For both versions, you can change the backgrounds and banner colors to whatever you see fit. The iOS version has more font options even though the 3DS version is fairly easy to read. Because of the retina scanner on the Apple devices, the images are in HD. It is really up to the preferences of the user. Winner: Draw

Final Verdict: Truthfully, both apps are overpriced since you can get a cheaper app for your phone that has more information or even go online to get the same if not more information. However, those Pokedexes are not officially recognized by Nintendo and would not have 3D models with all of the forms. If you are a Pokemon fan and want an official app, I would go with the Pokedex 3D Pro as it is the cheaper option for the same information. You also do not have to deal with multiple purchases to get everything that you want. The price difference can be accounted for by the fact that the app is going onto a third party device. Winner: Pokedex 3D Pro
