Poisoned Pen Press, a Scottsdale, Ariz. publisher specializing in mystery fiction, will issue its second annual Discover Mystery Award in 2013. Like the inaugural award won in 2012 by Ronald Sharp for "No Regrets, No Remorse," this prize consists of $1000 cash, the Discover Mystery title and a publishing contract.
According to a press release, unpublished mystery writers may enter the 2013 contest through March 30. Manuscripts must be between 60,000 and 90,000 words in length. Entrants will pay a $20 fee.
Staff if Poisoned Pen Press will select the winner, whose name will be announced on May 31. A celebrity judge, recently identified as Earlene Fowler, will also participate in the decision. Fowler is known for her "Benni Harper" mystery series, as well as such standalone novels as "The Road to Cardinal Valley."
"Poisoned Pen Press is always looking to discover something new, which is why we launched the Discover Mystery Award last year," stated Jessica Tribble, Publisher at Poisoned Pen Press. She added, "And now we are looking for the next winner. We can't wait to see what we discover."
