If you’re anything like me, the last thing you want to think about on Valentine’s Day is romantic bliss – but the holiday seems hell-bent on making us single folk miserable. Thankfully, the folks over at ImprovBoston think February 14th is as ludicrous as the rest of us, and are celebrating the holiday instead with their annual VD event, Thorns.
Thorns is a hilarious evening of stand-up comedy, music, characters and true-life stories that expose the utter mockery that is romance. An annual event that is offered up not just because the folks at ImprovBoston want to do it, but because they feel the people of Cambridge deserve to see it. They deserve the opportunity to laugh at the potential misfortune of friends who "found" someone and tricked them into sticking around, for now. After all, anybody who believes "tis better to have loved and lost" has clearly never had their heart ripped out of their chest and stomped into the ground. Don’t miss a night of comedy showcasing the hilarity of heartbreak and the funny to be found in falling in love.
It will be a hilarious experience for single people as well as people "in relationships" --although you may want to show up separately. Proposals during the show are highly discouraged, but would be AMAZING --although there is no a jumbotron. Basically, Thorns promises to make you laugh so hard you may even consider peeing yourself for a momentary release. All of this is done while proving, without a doubt, that anybody who truly believes 'tis better to have loved and lost has clearly never had their heart ripped from their chest and stomped into the ground.
Thorns! features an amazing line-up, with Casey Malone, Crazy Exes from Hell (Kirsten Opstad & Steve Subrizi), Mike Descoteaux, Brendan Boogie, Gene Dante, Emily Lavediere, Gillian McKay Smith, Melissa Carubia, Ilene Fischer, Dana Jay Bein, Adam Brooks, Chris Cuddy, and Matt McLaughlin.
Like the apologetic boyfriend with a box of sale chocolates the day after Valentine's Day, we keep giving it another chance. Be sure to grab up your tickets for Thorns now – because, after all, what’s funnier than dashed collective hopes and dreams?
