Poetry Related Hallowen Happenings
I was not able to find too many poetry related Halloween events this year, but this is what I have.
**Tonight, the Puddinhead Books publisher, Dave Gecic is involved in a reading which will take place at the Gallway Arms bar at 2442 N. Clark Street in Chicago, Illinois (between 7-10) The show will also include performances by Jeff Helgeson, Amy Kaspar, Robert Tobin, Richard Chwedyk, Esteban Colon, Barbara Button, Elyse Moretti, and Amy Leigh Abelsonhttp/. It will also be followed by an Open Mike of horror if time permits. There is a $5.00 cover. See ://www.puddinheadpress.com for puddinhead press info.
**The former Chicago native, Larry Winfield is a very thoughtful and articulate poetic voice and a fine DJ. I used to always feature him in my Usual Suspects shows (which were part of C.J. Laity’s program) in the late ‘90s and early 2000s and he never gave a bad performance. He has a new book about the supernatural and slavery titled “Banjo Strings.” It’s available along with his poetry chap books, “Rosedust” and “Wicker Park Sonata” on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Larry-Winfield/e/B004FIHPNS. Unlike me Larry has fully entered the digital age so they are available on Kindle.
Larry has a fascinating podcast show that he runs out in LA (which he now calls his home turf) called Sundown Lounge. To hear his special Halloween themed podcast go to https://archive.org/details/Slounge69HalloweenShowRecast.
The show includes some superior samples of Winfield’s own writing, along with diverse musical/literary selections that include a work penned by Mark Twain and a selection by by Yoko Ono, plus a song by the PMRC favorites, Alien Christ. There’s also some environmentalist info, and even some Klingon stuff for Star Trek fans (I admit that I am one). I highly recommend that you check it out. Chicago misses you Larry!
