Art and poetry inspired by Willa Cather's book "O Pioneers" will be on display this evening in downtown Omaha at an event for the 100th anniversary of the publication of the classic novel.
The auction at the historic Omaha Building at 1650 Farnam St. is open to the public although tickets for it were apparently to be bought by Oct. 4 (see details about the event and tickets here). The special evening was scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Artists from Red Cloud, Neb., where Cather lived as a child and often returned to as a successful author, will have work at the auction, according to information from the Willa Cather Foundation linked to above. Others will also show or read work inspired by "O Pioneers!" Three framed, limited-edition "O Pioneers!" posters will also be available.
"O Pioneers!" was published in 1913 and was Cather's break-through novel. She was born in Virginia but moved to Nebraska as a child and graduated from the University of Nebraska.
