Mindworks Publishing, a local Muslim owned business, is currently accepting submissions for a poetry anthology collection entitled, Muslimahs Speak: Her Voice, Her Spirit. Too often than not, it is instilled in women from a very young age through the interactions that they have with others and by the images that they are bombarded with daily that their voices are not as important as men’s. In addition, there are numerous women mentioned in the scriptures and several female companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) but somehow their stories are seldom re-told in a manner that is easy to understand and relate to for application in our own lives.
It is the intention of Mindworks Publishing to display the varied perspectives of modern Muslim women in Muslimahs Speak: Her Voice, Her Spirit. Muslimah poets will write about their faith, their lives, their relationships and their aspirations and in the process will hopefully dispel many of the myths concerning the lack of a strong and knowledgeable female voice in Islam. The anthology will feature original poetry written by Muslim women writers of today and will be accentuated by excerpts of the hadith about the mothers of the faithful, female sahabah and verses from the Holy Quran and Holy Bible about the wives and mothers of the Prophets (PBUT).
All poets are encouraged to submit up to four poems for consideration in the publication and there are no word count restrictions. The submission deadline is November 1, 2013. For more information please email Mindworks Publishing at email@example.com.
