Welcome to the world of fashion, beauty, and pageantry! Those words rung loudly through my head after I competed in my very first full figured beauty pageant. It was as stressful, nerve-wracking, and competitive as any pageant for average-sized women. The experience was memorable and catapulted my work in the plus size modeling and pageantry industries.
Because 50% of teenage girls in the United States are either already plus sized, or on the verge of becoming plus sized, there was a need and is a market for a beauty pageant that works to help beautiful young ladies not get caught up in the lie that they are not worthy of the acceptance, recognition, celebration, and inspiration in which their thinner counterparts enjoy, but believe that they, too, deserve self-love, life fulfillment, and a pageant experience to express their own unique beauty.
I am a walking testimony of how low self-esteem in adolescence translates to low self-esteem and poor decision making in adulthood. The Plus Teen USA pageant gives young ladies an opportunity to do something mainstream, create lasting friendships, and to have a place in the beauty and fashion industry.
Plus Teen USA, 2010 will be selected amongst plus size teens (sizes 12 and up, 13 in juniors) ages 13-19, and will be a role model for plus teens across the nation as evidenced by her confidence, positivity, poise, style, interview skills, and good moral character. This royal beauty will reign as Plus Teen USA, 2010 for one year, and in that year, will represent Plus Teen USA through her desired platform in a variety of settings which may include, but not be limited to modeling and speaking.
The 2010 Plus Teen USA Pageant and Conference, which will be held in Arlington, Texas during the weekend of October 24-26, is preceeded by four (4) Regional Pageants to be held in Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York throughout the month of July.
Contestants may compete for Regional Titles in any Regional Pageant, (regardless of residency) and/or in the National Pageant for the title of Plus Teen USA, 2010. Although it is not required for a contestant to compete in a Regional Pageant prior to competing in the National Pageant, to acquire valuable skills and experience needed for pageant competition prior to competing in the National Pageant, for a chance to win the Regional Title where she will represent her region as Plus Teen, and to win her way into the National Competition, it is highly recommended that all contestants compete in a Regional Pageant prior to competing in the Plus Teen USA pageant. It is similarly not required for Contestants who compete in the National Pageant to first compete in a Regional Pageant. Both Regional and National Competitions consist of the same Competition Criteria. Contestants must delegate a platform (a social cause that is near and dear to their hearts on which they intend to stand.
Each pageant will be attended by plus model agency scouts and representatives.
