In just over a week, Uptown Fashion Week will feature plus-size models for the first time since the fashion show started in 2010.
“Fashion should be accessible for everybody no matter what size they are,” said Albania Rosario, the show’s founder. “There is an ample market in the plus-size industry,” she added. “I don’t want to limit it to tall, skinny models.”
Organizers for the event, placed a casting call for the first time this past Friday, in which 18-to 35-year old plus-size hopefuls arrived with great interest in rocking the runway. More than a dozen designers from New York City, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela are going to be showcased, with fresh avant-garde and on-trend pieces.
“It’s not just about building a fashion bridge from Lincoln Center to northern Manhattan, but showcasing these places uptown that are trendy and fabulous,” Rosario said.
The main event happens September 12 in the Lake House at Van Cortlandt Golf Course. This event caps off the three-day event, that starts September 10 at the Maranello Restaurant and Lounge.
