There are more and more serious plus size designers who create attire that embraces the curves of our superabundant figures.
Elena Miroglio is one such designer. Her fashions have appeared as the lead designs for the past 5 years in the Milan Fashion Show. To everyone’s surprise in 2010, they refused to show her collection. Not willing to be ignored, Ms. Miroglio held her own show during the same week of the Milan Fashion Week. On Wednesday, Elena Miro showcased a collection “harking to the 1950s when the beauty of women, the round shapes and soft bodies were de rigueur,” she told AFP backstage before the show.
Her clothing designs accentuate the positive while eliminating the negative when it comes to plus size clothing. The Spring/Summer collection is a throw-back to the 50’s when the fashion world consisted of elegant ensembles and flowers, stripes, spots and abstract shapes. Waists became narrow as is seen in most movies and garments were fitted at the waist. Flared skirts and dainty flared dresses were seen as a distinguishing mark with Hollywood actors such as Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly becoming the style icons during that period.
Her high end collection can be viewed online but only purchased in store. Unfortunately for the U.S., her only store in North America is in Toronto.
Local stores that carry the higher end designer plus size fashion are Nordstrom's, Saks, and Nieman Marcus.
