Plumbing problem? Call a carpenter!

So the United Auto Workers union is going to own 55% of Chrysler-Fiat Motor Company. Controlling interest. The Socialists finally get their ultimate wet dream – workers shall control the means of production.

We'll find out if union bosses and shop stewards and factory foremen are the equal to business entrepreneurs with MBAs.

After all, business people are called business people because they make business decisions. Union people make union decisions. What kind of an automobile will we get when decisions are made on the basis of what's best for the bank accounts of the union leadership rather than what's the best way for a company to make a profit?

On a similar note, under President Obama's ultimate plan, bureaucrats will control the means of handing out healthcare to whomever they think might need it. Never mind that the current politically correct cover name is “public insurance plan,” everyone with a teaspoon of gray matter knows the real plan, another socialist wet dream, is nationalized healthcare.

Medical people make medical decisions. Bureaucrats make bureaucratic decisions. In the brave new world of tomorrow, government bureaucrats will make medical decisions.

That means the next time you have an attack of acute appendicitis you should rush to your local bureaucrat's office and sit in his waiting room until it's your turn for a petty civil servant to decide if you are a "viable" candidate for treatment. If you're too old, too ugly, too Republican, too capitalist, too middleclass, and have no political connections, you'll be put on a waiting list where you'll hopefully die, thus saving the collectivist state a few bucks it can't afford to waste on you.

All of this falls under the rubric of people not qualified to run your life will be running your life.

It's like calling a carpenter to fix your plumbing. It's like taking your dry cleaning to a donut shop. It's like hiring a poet to build an interstate highway bridge.

This is how the never-ceasing onslaught of government coercion is destroying the freedom of what was once a nearly libertarian society. Politicians and bureaucrats and civil servants, operating an ongoing organized criminal enterprise called Government because they're too incompetent to perform any actual, useful, meaningful work, will destroy everything in their path just to satisfy their own arrogant egos.

Have a nice day. But not until you ask your local ward healer if it's okay for you to.

Can I call the plumber to fix my broken toe...he deals with joints, right?

    Love the column, good read!

Garry, this time I don't agree. It doesn't matter if Unions own 55% of any company. It isn't the new 'wet dream' realized. Collective ownership (that is, ownership by a group of people) is not necessarily wrong under capitalism. What's wrong is Unions and their coercive power over taxpayers. More government is the problem, not company ownership.
