Pluis (rhymes with house) Davern of Royal Oaks, California was recognized on 11 February 2012 as the 2011 Trainer of the Year by Dog Fancy at the 57th Annual Purina Pro Plan Show Dogs of the Year Awards presented by Dogs In Review. The 2011 Trainer of the Year award offers recognition to a trainer who exemplifies excellence in canine behavior modification.
One of the most highly respected canine trainers in the country, Davern has 40-years of experience in obedience, field trails, agility and search and rescue. She is the founder and owner of Sundowners Kennels, where all National Disaster Search Dog Foundation canines are trained, and has trained more search & rescue dogs than anyone in the country.
Beyond her training skills, Davern is a highly respected American Kennel Club judge, who has judged the Westminster Dog Show in New York and other shows throughout the world. The multi-faceted Davern was also named the 2011 American Kennel Club Breeder of the Year for her Sundowners Sussex Spaniels.
In addition to Davern’s award, the Show Dogs of the Year dinner will honor the seven show dogs with the greatest number of Group Firsts in 2011, most of who are competing at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Along with those dogs, there are Special Industry Awards honoring individuals whose dedication to the dog world is unrivaled. These individuals will be honored for heightening public awareness of canine well-being and elevating respect for the industry at large. Awards include Groomer of the Year, Veterinarian of the Year and Shelter of the Year.
