A whole bunch of aquatic fun activities are planned this year in the Mid-Atlantic. The list of marine events that occur every year has just been updated. The Coast Guard has provided a calender of these events, at which it has to set up regulations to keep traffic limited our out of the way. Boats would need permission to enter the affected zones during the events.
The Coast Guard has proposed revising its rules regarding 31 places in the 5th District where it polices marine traffic during special activities, including adding 15 recurring events.
You can view the proposed rules and list of events at http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2013-02-28/html/2013-04622.htm.
The events include fireworks displays, regattas, powerboat races, swimming races, nautical parades, etc.
You can send comments by April 1.
The affected area runs between New Jersey and North Carolina.
The events range from the St. Mary's College Seahawk Sprint the second Saturday in April on the St. Mary's River in Maryland to the Holidays in the City event the last Saturday in November conducted by Norfolk Festevents Ltd. in the Elizabeth River and its branches near Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia.
