Check to see if you're bleeding before you swim!
Ladies, this one is for you.
I find a lot of female clients come to me with similar problems. Their profile is attracting plenty of attention, it's just the wrong kind of attention. Now, the first thing I check are the pictures. If "the girls" are prominently displayed, that's usually the first thing that needs to be changed. Believe me, men are fully aware that as a woman, you have breasts. Displaying them only gets the attention of the men you're not interested in dating.
The second problem, and the focus of this post, is what I like to call "blood in the water." As we all know from watching Shark Week, it's best not to swim when you are bleeding because sharks can smell blood from a quarter mile away.
Blood in the water is a red flag that's been taken too far. If you go on and on about how you really want a man who is respectful and kind and honest and _________ and ____________ (go on, insert your own adjectives!), then you're sending out a clear signal that you have been hurt before and have some issues and possibly low self-esteem.
Pick-up artists and other pervs are the sharks of the online dating world. They've trained on how to pick up on these signals in your profile and will use your weaknesses against you. Some of them suck at it. That's why you get emails that compliment you on your "shirt" or use phrases like, "Girl, you so FINE!" These are little sharks. They're pesky, but you can usually punch them in the face and they'll swim off. (Block is your friend!)
The big sharks are guys who see exactly what you don't want and create a persona that is the perfect man. Since you've already laid out the things you're insecure about, he has the blueprint to your heart and (most importantly to him) your bed.
Don't let the sharks get you. Check your profile for red flags and blood in the water. Have a friend check it. Follow me on Twitter and you can win a free profile critique where I'll point 'em out for you! Need an example of someone bleeding profusely who is now swimming happily in the sea?
