Despite being completely destroyed in a tornado on May 20, 2013, Plaza Towers Elementary School will, once again, be open. Seven students died when the tornado hit Moore. According to a February 12 report by KWTV Channel 9 News in Oklahoma City, Plaza Towers will be open in August, just in time for the new school year.

Parents, teachers and administrators left handwritten notes on a beam in a special ceremony on February 12. The beam will be placed in the center of the school and will serve as a reminder of what happened on May 20.

Mikki Davis lost her son at Plaza Towers. She explained how she wrote a note to God, asking Him to “please keep this beam up” and to “don't let it fall.”

The signed beamed is the last to be placed in the new Plaza Towers. It is expected to be placed there next week.

Briarwood Elementary will have a similar ceremony tomorrow. Their final beam will also be signed by those associated with the school. Briarwood Elementary was also destroyed during the May 20 tornado.
