The PlayStation 2 was released on October 26, 2000 in America. It has a well-regarded library as well making it one if the most successful selling systems of all time with 155 millions sold currently. It means a lot to this writer as it was the first system he ever bought through a long year of random jobs. The price just dropped $100 so there was enough left over for two games: Final Fantasy X and Jak and Daxter. The library, again, is huge and there will be time for a list of favorites another day. For now, there are two aspects of the PS2 that are the strongest: the Official PlayStation Magazine and an ex-girlfriend.
The PS2 had a voucher for a free copy of OPM inside. The issue that came was all about Kingdom Hearts. Previously, game magazines were a neat concept, but for some reason, this guy never subscribed to them. But when OPM came along, well, this seemed like the pinnacle of everything awesome about video games. Each issue was bursting with news and reviews plus it even came with a demo disc jam packed full of content. Plus the wait month to month made each issue all the more special.
Moving on, the PS2 was symbolically fused with a relationship, roughly 2005-07. First of all, this girlfriend was not a gamer, but she was an avid Disney fan. The aforementioned Kingdom Hearts actually took a strong hold on her. While she never played, she did engross herself in the story, watching. Which is another reason why Kingdom Hearts is such a treasured game series. Beyond that, it was the gifts she gave that cemented this connection. She bought Okami for a birthday, DDR Extreme 2 for a Christmas, and even came into a study hall to give Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. She was a mind reader!
Everyone has his or her favorite system and the PS2 is this writer’s. From games, to OPM, to the girlfriend, this guy could go on for hours. This may have seemed rushed, but that’s because there is an accompanying video on ReActionExaminer with more personal stories regarding the PS2. So check that out along with six other OPM behind the scenes footage from some of the biggest PS2 games like Call of Duty, or God of War. Also don't forget to show the PS2 some love.
