If you have downloaded Firmware 3.40, you'll notice that the subscription for PlayStation Plus is available. PlayStation Plus is the first venture Sony is entering for an online system that is based on subscriptions. Though those of us who don't get PlayStation Plus can still engage in online multiplayer and everything, Plus subscribers will gain access to early betas, demos, discounts on games, and free trials of PSN and PSOne classics. To get it simply do the following: 'Select Auto Download, Time, and Agree to be a Subscriber.' You can also go to the PlayStation Store and select it from there. This appears to only be live for the US at the moment.

Currently, Fat Princess DLC is selling for a discounted price as well as a number of other titles and inFamous is available to purchase (file size is 6.88 GB.), with a special PlayStation Plus demo available to download. The full release of Plus will go live tomorrow when the PlayStation Store updates sometime in the afternoon hours.

So, will you be taking the plunge and signing up for PlayStation Plus?

Will Sony offering a free trial of this for the first couple months? I thought I heard something about that.

Totally subscribing. Even though it's in the early stages, I'm sure Playstation Plus will be something that Sony will be very dedicated to bringing content to. I don't remember Xbox Live being all that when it first dawned at the birth of the 360. Sony already offers free online play, as well as a lot of other free content. This is something for really avid gamers, I believe.

This is ridiculous. I'm not referring to the demos or discounts or any of those features, they can be exclusive to PSN Plus that's fine, but a feature like auto firmware update should be available to all. This is what we were afraid of when they first announced a paid service part: new features that should've been available in the first place will now finally be added but only there.

wow Sony charging for Playstation Plus and they still dont have Facebook, Twitter, or Party Chat, the most important feature in console gaming history! NO THANKS. PS3 online is atrocious compared to 360, and is still far behind.
