Playstation Plus battle: UK takes on the US, week of January 17

This week, the UK has decided to give its PS+ members a free Vita game, namely Jet Set Radio. Most have likely already played this game, as it was originally released on the Dreamcast in 2000, and was rather popular (at least around this one's group of friends) so we won't be explaining about it. The Uk also gets several discounts, namely Derrick the Deathfin (30% off), and the Rocksmith: Classics, Metal Gear + Megadeath, and Alternative Rock packs (all 20% off).

The Rocksmith packs likely need no explanation, so let's take a look at the discounted game. Derrick the Deathfin is... somewhat unique. The game puts you in control of a paper shark named Derrick. Your goal is simple enough; Go around the globe (made entirely of paper and card) and devour or destroy anything you come across. Why would you wish to do this? Because you are avenging the death of your parents.

With the UK offerings listed, lets take a look at the deals the US has offered. Up first is their free game, which, unlike the UK, is for the PS3 rather than the handheld Vita. This game is Darksiders, an Action/Adventure which puts you in the role of War. You make it down to Earth and discover, much to your surprise, that you are the only one of the Four Horsemen that have made it there. You soon discover the reason for this; The seal which calls you and your comrades down has not been broken as you expected. Will you fall to the battling forces on the planet, will you break the seal and call upon your comrades, or will something else, something unexpected occur?

The US also only gets one discounted item. This is Stardrone Extreme (at a whopping 50% off), which is a game featuring a mix of arcade action, pinball, breakout, physics, and collect-the-object.+ Featuring over 50 levels, Stardrone Extreme is likely to keep you entertained for a while at least.

So which store came out on top this week? In terms of number of content, it'd be the UK, with several more discounts than the US offered. If we compare the free games by release date, the US pulls out a win. Overall though, I'd say it's roughly equal, but then, I haven't played Jet Set Radio and I lack Rocksmith.
