Thursday, Feb. 21, SCE World Wide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida reassured gamers that the PlayStation 4 will not require an internet connection to use the system. This rumor has persisted for months, and the fact that it's untrue is sure to come as a relief to the many gamers without an internet connection, as well as gamers whose connection is spotty at best.
"Oh yes, yes, you can go offline totally. Social is big for us, but we understand there are some people who are anti-social! So if you don't want to connect to anyone else, you can do that."
Many gamers should be pleased by this revelation; because judging from the backlash Blizzard received for making their single player title “Diablo III” require a connection at all times, gamers do not like this. Requiring a connection at all times renders your video games unplayable when their internet connection loses signal or drops completely. Not requiring a connection lets the player still play their games as long as there is still power going to the console.
Shuhei Yoshida also clarified a number of other questions plaguing gamers, such as the fact that the system will not block used games, and that it will not support the PlayStation 3’s Dual Shock 3.
