According to a report today from VG 24/7, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida lauded Microsoft’s efforts to keep up with Sony as the two technology giants get set to square off in the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 format war.
In an interview with Games Industry, Yoshida said he respected Microsoft’s courage to quickly remedy some of its policies after first unveiling the Xbox One, saying it must have been a tough time for the development team.
“We know they’re very smart people. It’s great that they were able to quickly realize that some of the things they were doing were not popular, and were able to make really quick decisions to change some of those things –– even things that their engineering group must have spent a lot of time preparing before the launch,” Yoshida said.
The ability to admit mistakes and respond to consumers’ demands, Yoshida said, shows how dedicated Microsoft is to making sure the Xbox One is a successful one.
Yoshida said, especially in the United States, Sony never took Microsoft lightly, calling the PS4 the challenger and the Xbox One the frontrunner in the market.
But the messaging blunders early on from Microsoft gave Sony a chance to catch up, Yoshida said.
However, other markets are different, Yoshida said. In Europe Sony has a larger market share and Japan has a “much longer history” of being in the market.
