It appears Sony PlayStation 4 release date rumors will finally be put to rest on Tuesday, Aug. 20. For weeks and months since the reveal of the new PS4 game console, those eager to know when it will finally be available to use have been anticipating the big launch. Now, it looks like early this coming week, the news will be made official.
An Aug. 16 report via IGN.com indicates that on this coming Tuesday, Sony will hold a press conference at the 2013 Gamescom event in Germany. The press conference is scheduled for 18:00 BST, or approximately 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. In addition to PS4 release date news, there's expectations that Sony will also give some updates about their PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita consoles as well.
Sony first announced the PlayStation 4 next generation console during a Feb. 2013 press conference. The actual video game system was officially unveiled during the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo this past June, with various game titles demonstrated as well. The PS4 has been on pre-order ever since then, with the item pre-orders selling out quickly, despite the fact there was no official release date. The rival console, Microsoft's Xbox One, is expected to release in November of this year, with some predicting Sony could release the PS4 two weeks ahead of that, or two weeks after.
IGN and other websites will be streaming Tuesday's Sony press conference about the PS4 release date, as the company finally gives the info video game fans have been seeking.
