PlayStation 4 release date: Sony announces PlayStation 4 coming soon

PlayStation 4 release dates have been rumored for a while, but Sony may have provided some facts. The PlayStation 4 release date is expected for this upcoming holiday season, as confirmed by a report on Wednesday (Feb. 20). While stating that it will come out for the holiday season, there weren't a lot of additional facts to go along with it.

What many consumers want to know is what the price point for the PlayStation 4 is going to be as well as an exact day that it will be available for purchase. That news is probably being saved for another big announcement in late spring or early summer so that Sony can really get the buzz going for the next gaming console.

One of the abilities that the new PlayStation will provide is the ability to share gaming footage socially. Sony is also updating the DualShock game controller (as seen in photo) and it will have a touchpad as well as motion controls. Quicker start-up times, improved graphical performance, and a cloud-enable network of sample games will also be coming with the new console.

While Sony didn't give a specific PlayStation 4 release date here, gamers should be excited that the company is on track to release the new gaming console in time for the holiday season. Now everyone has to just sit back and wait for Sony to host another presentation in the coming months that will likely reveal exactly what the console will look like.
