According to a report today from VG 24/7, Thekla Inc.’s Jonathan Blow said when the development team recently played its upcoming title The Witness, they found the gameplay to last between 25 and 40 hours.
Blow, in an interview with the PS Blog, said the development team originally had pegged The Witness for an eight out game but it’s non-linear approach has expanded the time playing exponentially.
“Some of the game is optional,” Blow said. “I suspect this is the biggest and most intricate world ever built for a puzzle game. Someone get a consultant from the Guinness Book to verify that.”
Blow said Thekla Inc. is currently working on making The Witness run smoothly with a “solid frame rate,” along with perfecting the graphics and making sure the “streaming system loads things quickly.”
The Witness development team wrote the engine for the game itself, which Blow said meant a lot more work in creating the game but also a lot more artistic freedom to tweak it into the highest-quality game possible.
“… It means we have precise control and can tweak it carefully until it is the highest-quality experience we can deliver,” Blow said.
No release date has been set for The Witness yet, but the title will launch as PS4 exclusive followed by a release on PC.
